Newtonian Use
This Package includes a Premium Denk II Binoviewer with 2 SCD Holders, a Dual Arm Newtonian Power x Switch, a 2" Newtonian OCS,
an aluminum case and a 1.25" nosepiece. The Binoviewer, Power x Switch and Newtonian OCS are loaded into the 2" focuser of the
telescope until the Power x Switch is flush with the top of the telescope focuser tube. The 2" OCS can expand if focus is not
immediately reached in the low power 1.4X mode (Logo-Side Arm "IN"). The middle spacer tube has been designed to increase in
length and then be locked in position since focus varies from telescope to telescope. For telescopes like the Obsession® and
the Discovery® and any other Newtonian where the focal point is located closeer to the focuser base (single eyepieces need to
be racked in almost completely), the 1.4X version is recommended unless the user is willing to shorten truss tubes a bit or move
the mirror cell forward toward the secondary (in a solid tube Newtonian).
For those using telescopes made by Nightsky®, Starmaster® and other companies where the focus is well out from the
focuser base with ample in-travel remaining after single eyepieces are focused, a lower power 1.2X OCS is a viable alternative.
This 1.2X Cell offers 1.2X/1.8X and 2.3X when used with the Denk II Newtonian Power x Switch included in this package. Also see
Denk II Universal Power x Switch Package information for more details because the 1.2X cell is standard in that package and an
extra spacer tube is included to make up for the 3/4" focuser travel required. There will most likely be intrusion into the light
path when the 1.2X is used but this will occur in the Lowest Power Mode of the Power x Switch and the mid and higher Power x
Switch settings require racking out of your focuser. The Denk II Universal Power x Switch Package is featured in this "Newtonian"
product section and is the last Package choice found. For scopes like Discover and Obsessions, this 1.4X Newtonian Power x Switch
Package is recommended though The Denk II Universal Power x Switch Package will also allow focus though intrusion at low and mid
powers will be significant. We believe that the diffraction effects are minimal but we also wanted to point out that intrusion
with the 1.2X optic when used in scopes where the focal plane is close to the upper cage will be evident.
SCT Use
This Package will be usable with SCTs and Meade®, Questar®, and Intes Micro Maksutovs. If the telescope can accept 2
accessories, the OCS must be unthreaded leaving the 2" nosepiece in the Power x Switch. The Binoviewer is then loaded into the 2
star diagonal and two levels of focal reduction result when the Power x Switch Arms are moved to the "IN" positions, one at a
time. Generally, .6X occurs with the Logo-Side Arm "IN" and .8X occurs when the opposite arm or the Newtonian Power x Switch is
moved to the "IN" position.
Refractor Use
This package may be used with Refractors also. The large 2" format front cell called The Multi-Purpose OCS Cell must be threaded
into the 2" Star diagonal filter threads located on the telescope-side star diagonal tube. The binoviewer is loaded into the
eyepiece side of the star diagonal and the Power x Switch arms will function allowing a low, mid-range and a higher magnification
factor with a single pair of eyepieces. If a 1.25" star diagonal is being used exclusively, the 1.25" Refractor OCS Cell must be
ordered.
Star Diagonals When Used With Refractors
Denkmeier 2" Star Diagonals are ideal for providing a lower-end magnification and maximum illumination when used with this
Package and a Refractor. This is because the Newtonian OCS Cell included in this Newtonian Package can be situated very close to
the star diagonal mirror. The optic is as close as possible to the star diagonal mirror because the diagonal telescope-side
nosepiece can be unthreaded and the OCS Cell can replace it. For added stability, the nosepiece can then be threaded to the OCS
Cell. This allows lowest possible magnifications when the Power X Switch Logo-Side Arm is moved to the "IN" position. Illumination
is also maximized and the telescope focuser tube position in all Power x Switch settings is brought inward. This last effect is
beneficial for balance and allows refractors with less overall focuser travel to reach focus in all three Power x Switch
magnification levels. Use of the Denkmeier Diagonal also allows the OCS Cell to thread to the end of the Diagonal Nosepiece as an
alternative position. If the nosepiece is not removed from the diagonal and the OCS Cell is threaded to the end, magnification
increases and focuser positions of the Power x Switch move outward. Any 2" diagonal with 48mm filter threads on the telescope side
tube (Nosepiece) will allow the OCS Cell to install in this latter position.
Coronado Filter Use
An optional 1.25" OCS Cell be used if the binoviewer and Power x Switch System is to be brought to focus in Solarmax
Telescopes®, or Refractors equipped with Solarmax Filters. This optional cell installs in the filter threads on the
telescope-end of the 1.25" Coronado Blocking Filter star diagonal. This cell must remain in place for the binoviewer and Power x
Switch to function. When using this Package in a Solarmax90 Telescope®, the 1.25" Refractor OCS Cell is unnecessary because
this particular telescope has a special shortened tube that is designed to allow the Denkmeier Binoviewer to reach focus (see S&T
Magazine Maxscope 90 Hot Product description in Jan 2004 issue).
